Giulio Romagnoli, the CEO of Romagnoli F.lli Spa: “We are renewing our commitment to produce healthy, affordable and responsible food, creating the company of the future day by day, a combination of tradition, ethics and solidarity”
Romagnoli F.lli Spa is continuing its successful experience in non-financial reporting. As one of the main businesses in the Italian fruit and vegetable sector and a specialist in growing potatoes, the company is presenting its second Sustainability Report for the 2021 financial year. This document was produced by the Deloitte consultancy firm, already a partner for the previous report. The document involved all company departments, which are fully committed to developing Romagnoli’s long-term goals and corporate strategic vision.
The challenge of assessing its performance once again represents an invaluable chance for growth and improvement for Romagnoli, as well as confirmation of the stability of its strategic assets, solid foundations of a clearly recognisable entrepreneurial tradition: developing the supply chain, innovation and social responsibility. The company has made numerous investments, confirming its desire to raise its profile for reliability and to increasingly establish its place as the category leader in the potato-growing sector.
“We are once again proud to share the second edition of our Sustainability Report, a tool that gives stakeholders an idea of the events, actions and objectives that characterised our work over the past year”, explained Giulio Romagnoli, the CEO of Romagnoli F.lli Spa. “We tackled various challenges, including the ongoing pandemic and the unavoidable impact of climate change on the agri-food business. In light of this scenario, we had to implement sustainable and far-sighted business models that guide our choices about research and experimentation, with the goal of creating a successful balance between the environment, the company and the region. To produce healthy, affordable food through responsible methods: this is the plan which Romagnoli intends to follow, creating the company of the future day by day, a combination of tradition, ethics and solidarity”.
The performance of the new document highlights the value of Romagnoli’s sustainable strategy, while adding new elements. The company has achieved two important recognitions, UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 and UNI ISO 45001:2018 certification, issued by the KIWA Italia Certification Agency. It is tangible proof of Romagnoli F.lli’s reliability with stakeholders in terms of its Workplace Health and Safety Management System and Environmental Management System, which are vital issues for the company and can be seen in its long-term desire to make its supply chain eco-friendly, and to add fundamental value to the company’s community and people.
“The new edition of the Report shows the progress Romagnoli F.lli has made in terms of its sustainable commitment. Once again we saw the real interest of this historic company in issues of sustainability and social responsibility, as well as its approach of continuously pursing new targets and measurable results”, explained Silvia Dallai, a Deloitte partner. “Romagnoli’s commitment to continuous improvement is also proven by its implementation of advanced safety and quality management systems certified according to the most important international sector standards. Confirming the company’s transparency, the second Sustainability Report adopts international reporting criteria also used by major listed groups”.
The Romagnoli F.lli Sustainability Report, produced in accordance with the “Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Standards” established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international standard for reporting information on sustainability, is organised into seven sections: the history of Romagnoli Fratelli, its approach to sustainability, its innovation, research and development, its sustainable supply chain and product responsibility, its people, its environmental responsibility and its bond with the region. Furthermore, Romagnoli F.lli ensures that it follows issues of environmental, socio-economic and governance compliance, while also checking its ability to manage risks and identify ESG opportunities, subjecting its Sustainability Report to an ESG Rating carried out by the ESG Solutions team of the Cerved Rating Agency, an Italian rating agency specialised in assessing non-financial companies’ creditworthiness and in evaluating the level of sustainability of economic operators.
From the origins of this long tradition to its vision for the future, the Report was designed step by step according to the company’s mission: to grow green potatoes, which are economically and socially sustainable, using modern farming practices for the benefit of the entire supply chain.
