For us at Romagnoli F.lli, every new potato variety is not simply born in a field: it is born from an idea, a vision and a journey that crosses territories, traditions and people. It is a journey that begins long before reaching consumers' homes: at the heart of it all is our Research and Development department, which we run side by side with leading European seed companies specialising in varietal selection and genetic improvement.

Every year, we test over 500 clones and 30 new potato varieties in more than 70 test fields distributed throughout the national potato-growing areas, observing how they react to different soil and climate conditions. It is meticulous work, thanks to which we have obtained many of the varieties that are most widely grown and appreciated in Italy and Europe today.
We look at potato cultivation through the eyes of farmers, with the aim of supporting them in producing healthy, high-quality crops with minimal use of natural resources.
This is why our selection process does not stop at the field: the most promising varieties undergo sensory testing at the Institute for Bio-Economy (IBE) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Bologna, which evaluates their organoleptic characteristics according to parameters that we have defined together over the years: a new variety is only created when it meets all the required standards.
This vision gave rise to our “New Generation Potatoes” project, which looks to the future of potato cultivation by promoting more sustainable cultivation techniques and varieties that are naturally tolerant and resistant to the main biotic and abiotic factors. Our goal is clear: to offer the supply chain a range of varieties suitable for all Italian areas, capable of reducing chemical interventions and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and high-quality production model, thus offering the market an excellent product capable of enhancing taste and goodness.
We are supported in this endeavour by partners such as AGRICO, HZPC and the Institute for Bio-Economy of the CNR in Bologna.
It is thanks to this commitment that in 2019 we obtained Residuo Zero® certification for our potato product from the accredited certification body Accredia Check Fruit.
Our new generation potatoes reflect our passion for the land, our focus on quality and our desire to build a more sustainable supply chain day after day.
It is a journey that starts with the seed, passes through fields and laboratories and reaches our tables, bringing with it a vision of a more environmentally friendly future.
