Romagnoli F.lli S.p.A. ended 2020 with a turnover of over €42 million and steady exports, accounting for 6% of total turnover.
The amount of potatoes sold (seed, ware and processed potatoes) has grown and now exceeds 61,500 tonnes (+2%). The amount of onions sold has also grown +20%.
Romagnoli F.lli S.p.A. CEO Giulio Romagnoli emphasised: “In a very exceptional year we have responded strongly, continuing to focus on quality, innovation and sustainability, and addressing the complex nature of these times while responsibly guaranteeing continuous supplies. The outstanding result achieved in 2020 – while reflecting the sharp drop in the Horeca channel and the lower prices of ware potatoes recorded in the second half of the year due to decreasing consumption linked to the COVID-19 emergency – once again confirms that we are on the right path. Research and innovation into varieties are and will increasingly be strategic factors for sharing sustainable farming practices for the entire supply chain, while promoting the development of potato-growing that is not just greener but also economically more sustainable for farms”.
The company’s performance throughout 2020 was also good in terms of the price of potatoes delivered on consignment as part of the Framework Agreement: premium-grade potatoes were worth €255 per tonne, a figure that is among the highest in Italy and Europe.
Among some of the best-selling products, 2020 confirmed the success of Selenella® and PDO Patata di Bologna potatoes, brands that are becoming increasingly popular among consumers, thanks to the core values of quality, regional links and sustainability that characterise the two consortiums, of which Romagnoli F.lli S.p.A. is a founding member. Throughout 2020, we saw growing interest from the market in the new “Residue-Free” line of potatoes, which will be joined by three colours of onions by 2021: red, white and yellow.
Finally, there were excellent results in terms of Global Gap certification in production chains, with over 90% of companies (+10% compared with 2019) and 90% of production being certified.
