It is now possible to use your smartphone to analyse different potato cultivations, and also to get real-time information on soil temperature, moisture and CO2 levels by planting an electronic potato among the tubers.
At our Macfrut booth, we had the pleasure of hosting the presentation of an app and an electronic device created by innovative Dutch company Solentum.
With a simple photo of a sample-potato, the SolGrader app allows growers to obtain measurements such as size, weight, average length, estimated total yield and grade distribution. The SolAntenna Bluetooth electronic potato, instead, is capable of gathering data relative to soil temperature, moisture, CO2 levels and physical shock levels throughout the whole production process, including transport and storage.
“The potato sector is one of the most dynamic and innovative ones in the agricultural industry - says Giulio Romagnoli, president of Romagnoli F.lli Spa -. By implementing the latest technologies to accurately monitor productions in real time, we are now able to bridge physical distances and instantly obtain a vast array of extremely useful information from the various growing areas. This allows us to act promptly in optimising all phases of production and storage, and achieve the highest possible standards of quality”.
