The sun starts to appear more often, the air gets warmer and a new light starts to shine and brighten up our days. May is here and brings with it plenty of delicious fruit and vegetables to create tasty, healthy dishes!
May fruits
Strawberries: loved by young and old alike, they are great for eating on their own or as an ingredient in a mouth-watering fruit salad.
Kiwis: they are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Great eaten with a spoon or cut into small pieces in a yoghurt for a fresh, healthy snack.
Apricots: soft and doughy, they are rich in vitamins A and C and are good for the skin.
Limes: they contain a large amount of vitamin C and antioxidants, boost the immune system and help with digestion. Excellent as an ingredient in thirst-quenching smoothies and cocktails!
May vegetables
Novelle potatoes: with their thin light skin and yellow flesh, they are particularly suitable for eating boiled or roasted. Our èVita La Novella Siciliana potatoes come from the best production areas in Sicily, in particular the region around Syracuse, where the characteristic reddish soil - rich in iron - gives these potatoes highly prized organoleptic qualities.
Green beans: technically they are a legume, but from a nutritional point of view they are more like vegetables; soft and delicate, they go very well in a large salad or as a side dish to balance a fresh, light meal.
Radishes: very low in calories, they are a godsend for our bodies; a natural cleanser and good for the digestive system, they have an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect and support the immune system thanks to their vitamin C content.
Celery: a fresh, crunchy vegetable, perfect for nibbling on in a vinaigrette dip before meals or for an aperitif with friends.
Asparagus: having already met them last month, they are still a mainstay of the season; they have important diuretic and detoxing properties and... they’re delicious!
