To reduce our consumption of disposable crockery and therefore our impact on the environment, many companies, designers, students and experts in all fields are working on environmentally-sustainable solutions that are also… edible.
Why just settle for food, when you can also eat the container?
Edible cling film, chocolate teaspoons to sweeten coffee and tea, seaweed cups to munch on once you have drunk your drink, or delicious biscuit-cups created to hold drinks, jams and cream and then be eaten. These are just a few of the examples created from the creative – and eco-friendly – flair of companies and other people.
Potatoes can also be used to create edible crockery. In Belgium, for example, a pair of designers have managed to formulate a material to produce food containers with a mixture made of potato starch, water and oil.
The pieces created are very resistant, useful for holding all types of sauces and food, completely biodegradable, easily digestible and unflavoured so they are ideal for both sweet and savoury food.
Plates to eat and be eaten: they replace plastic and are definitely more delicious!
