Since the early '90s, Romagnoli's R&D activities, conducted in collaboration with top international experts, have aimed to interpret trends in consumer needs and tastes.
This has been anything but easy, because everything has to be done far in advance of the actual launch of the product on the market.
The varietal innovation process demands a great deal of time.
In the best case, the development and test stage requires 10-11 years, plus another 5 to reach yield volumes sufficient for marketing.
In addition, a mere 10% of more than 1,000,000 crossovers pass all the steps. Therefore, to have 2 or 3 new clones a year, you need continuous, long-term planning based on large numbers: an average of 2 to 2.5 million new crossovers and clones a year at the experimental stage.
